106.9 The X is a campus radio that was started in 1978 by Radio Fanshawe and situated in London, ON. On 6 October 1978, CRTC gave the approval to put an FM channel in London; the proposed frequency was 99.3 MHZ for Class A channel by Fanshawe with the wattage power of 3000 w. Whereas on 11 April 1978, the decision was made to sign air the CIXX-FM on 106.9 MHz from the department of communications. One more thing was taken into consideration that 106.9 The X would give learning and training opportunities to campus’ students, in which the radio would perform 117 hours of transmission per week. On 31 October 1978, 6XFM began its broadcasting and was functioned by the students, belong to Radio and Journalism department of Fanshawe.

The equipment like ITC cart machines, Ampex reel, Studer, McCurdy 7550 console and Technics turntables was transported to the control room of 6XFM. On 13 June 2007, CRTC approved a request for renewal of CIXX-FM license, which was valid until 31 August 2014. Students and Volunteers are being involved as newscasters, Reporters, documentary producers and announcers. Some other skills were taught to the students, like engineering, production and management writing.
